Round 6 - Fulbeck - September 2006

The sixth round of the PAX Insurance assisted RAFMSA Karting Championship was held at Fulbeck in Lincolnshire in mid-September.

Due to various work commitments, this round saw the smallest number of entrants in the Championship so far. With a surprise last minute entry from reigning champion, Phil Hill, the entry number was made up to eight.

The Saturday practice saw all drivers getting to grips with this fast flowing, tight circuit with every driver making a special allowance for the gigantic kerbs.

The good weather continued on Sunday. Heat one saw Phil Hill win, closely followed by Marcus Ramsden. The battle between these two drivers could be seen throughout the day.

In heat two, Marcus Ramsden led to the finish from pole. Unbeknown to him, a pile-up involving most of the drivers occurred, which led to an unfinished race for both Chris Hughes and Phil Hill.

Heat three was relatively quiet compared to heat two. Phil Hill won the heat from Luke Bourne.

The line up for the final was Marcus Ramsden on pole position with Phil Hill lined up on the outside. Ramsden lead from the lights although Hill was hot on his heels. The second lap saw Hill overtake Ramsden down the back straight into the chicane. Hill’s leopard-powered kart just had a slight advantage over Ramsden’s Rotax engine but this did not stop both of them pushing hard. Hill and Ramsden drove away and opened up an advantage over the rest of the field. Meanwhile Ashley Prime was chasing down Luke Bourne for the third place but just ran out of laps.

The final standings were:
1st Phil Hill Leopard/Intrepid
2nd Marcus Ramsden CRG/Rotax
3rd Luke Bourne Tony/Rotax

With Marcus Ramsden finishing second, this allowed him to win the 2006 Championship with one round to go at Glan-Y-Gors.
