Pro Kart Endurance Championship
Round 4 - 14th May 2006 - Buckmore Park
A maximum grid of 45 teams, descended upon Buckmore Park for this the 4th round of the championship.
With the weather set fair, AJB1 placed their kart firmly on pole position from Baron Racing, with Frascati Racing and NGR making up the 2nd row.
After a scrappy start, it was Baron Racing who took up the running from RPM Bad Boys, Team X, DXI-Sin, Team Alpha and Frascati Racing making up the top six. As the race settled down DXI-Sin moved up into 2nd place from Team X and pole sitters AJB1 had recovered to 11th after their 1st lap incident.
As the first hour mark approached, AJB1 were forced to pit yet again which effectively put them out of contention along with the other championship super-pro contender Lucas Racing, who were having an uncharacteristically disastrous day. Other early casualties were SZR, Team BAR and Spectrum Racing.
Just prior to the first fuel stop window, Baron still led a field of six super-pro teams with Frascati Racing followed by Teamtec and Modelworlduk.com, in a commendable 7th, 8th and 9th places respectively, flying the flag for the pro-class.
With the whole field now re-fuelled, DXI-Sin now led Baron with Autotekk and RPM Bad Boys all still on the same lap. Team Alpha were also on the move making their way up into the top six and early contenders Team X, who had pitted for a steering problem, had recovered to 13th place and were now the fastest kart on the circuit.
With the 2nd fuel stop completed, Baron had regained the lead, Autotekk were in 2nd just in front of RPM Bad Boys and Team X were now in the top six displacing Team Alpha. Frascati Racing were still leading the pro-class from NGR after Prosport had suffered a puncture and DXI-Wild and Grassroots were fighting it out for the clubman class honours in 21st place overall.
With two hours left to run, Baron still led, but Autotekk and RPM Bad Boys were still on the same lap and putting in some very fast and consistent times. Team X were now up into 4th place just in front of Team Alpha and NGR now led Frascati in the pro-class battle.
When all the teams had fuelled up for the race to the finish, the six surviving super-pro teams resumed their rightful place at the top of the leader board with Baron leading from Autotekk, RPM Bad Boys, Team X, Team Alpha and DXI-Sin. NGR were forced to make an unscheduled stop and Kombikart who had steadily worked their way up from midfield, now took over the pro-class lead from Frascati and Focus.
In the closing stages of the race, the podium places looked set with about 30 seconds separating these three teams, however the fight for 4th between Team X, Alpha and DXI-Sin was covered by a matter of just a few seconds. With the chequered flag in sight, Baron charged for the line taking their 1st victory of the season, with Autotekk and RPM Bad Boys also producing their best results and taking the remaining two podium places. DXI-Sin’s fight with Team X and Alpha was thwarted in the last few minutes of the race with a terminal engine problem, forcing them to finish on one engine and dropping them to a miserable 18th place. Kombikart just stole the pro-class honours from Frascati and a fast finishing Teamtec, whilst DXI-Wild won the clubman class from Grassroots.
The day’s results had very much evened up the championship positions with ABJ1 and Lucas Racing, suffering a miserable round, while conversely Baron Racing’s victory moved them up into 2nd place behind Team Alpha, whose 5th place keeps them on top the championship leader board.
