Mixed Fortunes After Heavy Rain At Clay Pigeon
Heavy rain showers played an important role in the outcome of the fourth round of the BTE Lawline/Renault Super One Karting Championships on Sunday at Clay Pigeon near Yeovil. Formula A Championship leader Mark Litchfield (Rocester, Staffordshire) maintained a comfortable gap at the top of the standings after a brace of podiums, Craig Copeland (Wimborne, Dorset) managed to edge ahead in Formula JICA, but in Formula ICA the weekend proved to be a disaster for Jon Lancaster (Pudsey, Leeds).
Formula A
David Gregory was the star of the weekend in the BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Kart Championship after making the best of the rain-affected conditions to take two untroubled wins. The podium in each points-scoring Final was identical with Chris Rogers taking a brace of welcome second places while category leader Litchfield was third in both races. His Formula A Championship lead now stands at 58 points with Gregory’s excellent set of Clay Pigeon results moving him into joint-second position in the title race alongside Jeremy Metcalfe (Fleet).
Formula ICA
Much like David Gregory in the Formula A class, BTE Lawline/Renault ABkC ICA Championship front-runner Chris Lamare (Inkberrow, Worcestershire) made the most of the poor weather at Clay Pigeon to secure two well deserved Finals victories. Danny Cruttenden (Wilmington) enjoyed a good weekend with third in Final One and second in Final Two, while Tom Brown (Irchester, Northants) finished second in Final One and Chris Chubb (Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands) boosted his title bid with third place in Final Two.
For Jon Lancaster the rain turned his weekend into a nightmare with two bad results – unclassified in Final one and 25th in Final Two – meaning he slipped 12 points behind Cruttenden in the Formula ICA Championship.
Formula JICA
Victory in Final Two of the BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Junior Kart Championship, coupled with a fighting fourth place in Final One, gave Craig Copeland a six-point lead in the Formula JICA standings over close rival Lee Bell (High Wycombe, Bucks).
Final One was won comfortably by Richard Singleton (Conwy) while Adam Christodoulou moved into third in the championship after a brace of podiums. Garry Findlay (Eye, Suffolk), meanwhile, finished second in Final One and Matthew Bell (Morpeth) was third in Final Two.
