MSA Super 1
Series
Round 1 -
ThreeSisters
- 7th March 2004
Maximum Points for Litchfield and Copeland
BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Kart Championship front-runner Mark Litchfield (Rocester, Staffordshire) and BTE Lawline/Renault British Junior Kart Championship ace Craig Copeland (Wimborne) both took maximum points from the opening round of the British Super One Kart Series after some superb racing at Three Sisters, Wigan, on Sunday, 7th March.
In the BTE Lawline/Renault ABkC ICA Championship, meanwhile, Charlie Bruce-White (Salisbury, Wiltshire) and Chris Lamare (Inkberrow, Worcestershire) took a points-scoring win apiece as Freddie Martin-Dye (Shamley Green, Surrey) overcame awful luck in Final 1 to take a superb podium in Final 2 after being forced to start 14th on the grid.
Formula A
Mark Litchfield, the 2003 Formula A Vice-Champion, looked in great form all weekend and enjoyed contrasting fortune to that of reigning champion Gary Catt (Thruxton, Hampshire) and former title winners Mark Rochford (Charlton Musgrove, Somerset) and Chris Rogers (Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire) who all suffered an indifferent weekend.
During Final 1 David Gregory (Sheffield) made the early running but after a superb charge from Litchfield was forced to settle for second place ahead of third placed Jeremy Metcalfe (Church Crookham, Hampshire). In Final 2 Litchfield controlled proceedings from the off to take his second victory ahead of Alexander Sims (Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire) and Jamie Croxford (Wootton Fields, Northamptonshire).
Formula ICA
Two separate winners in Formula ICA ensured the points table is a very close run thing at this early stage of the season with victory in Final 1 for Charlie Bruce-White and the Final 2 win taken by Chris Lamare after withstanding intense late-race pressure from Freddie Martin-Dye.
A brace of podiums for class newcomer Jon Lancaster (Calverley, West Yorkshire) gives him the category lead by a single point while Sam Hill (Almandsbury, Bristol) took a welcome third place in Final 1. Martin-Dye, meanwhile, took second in Final 2 after a fantastically spirited fight-back from 14th on the grid – mechanical problems robbing him of the chance to win in the opening points scorer.
Formula JICA
Craig Copeland couldn’t have wished for a better start to his Formula JICA campaign with 100 points his reward for a tremendous performance at Three Sisters. In Final 1 it was, literally, a photo finish between Copeland and late registration Richard Singleton (Conway) after a titanic battle. Lee Bell (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire) finished a welcome third.
In Final 2 Copeland took the victory with a more comfortable margin of almost two seconds following a late race coming together with Adam Christodoulou (Shenstone, Litchfield). Bell made it two podiums from the weekend with second place while Garry Findlay (Eye, Suffolk) finished third.
