MSA British Endurance Kart Championship
Round 3 - Lydd - 27/04/03

Reigning Champions Back on the Podium

In a dramatic finish, and a sizzling return to form, title holders Team ZLR held on to win by just 1.3seconds, at the end of the four hour third round of the MN supported M.S.A. British Endurance Kart Championship at Lydd International Raceway on Saturday. Having had a shaky start to their title defence in the first two rounds ZLR set the pace after half an hour, but were engaged in a constant battle with fastest qualifiers Capital Racing, on a damp but quickly drying circuit. All teams made tyre changes to slicks at the first fuel stops, and Moss Racing emerged ahead of Capital. Winners of the first two rounds, and championship leaders Titan Motorsport, had been rapidly making progress from their lowly 15th grid spot and were up into the top five on the leaderboard. Red Stripe, Klubkart, and Mr C all within a lap at this stage. The hour mark saw ZLR and Capital again contesting the lead, with Capital moving ahead after the second fuel stops. They increased their advantage to a lap but then spun out with a puncture, and once again ZLR resumed command. Titan had now moved to third, and eased into the lead at the half-way mark. Another fuel stop and ZLR once again showed the way. Further back, Capital were making a recovery, and Roker Racing had much improved from a poor start. Titan edged closer to the leaders, then lost ground as the made their way through back-markers. A final fuel stop, and ZLR held a 30 second advantage with twenty minutes left. Titan upped their pace, and the difference narrowed to 12secs, then ten, then seven, but time was running out, and at the flag ZLR still had that small but vital gap.
