Custom race suits and painted helmets are not generally sported by grass roots karters - Bambino and Cadet karting is most certainly in a much more heathy state than junior and senior levels. There are plenty of parents who can throw £5-10k pa at it and a smaller number who can afford £15,20,30+ pa for their child's karting. It's at junior and senior where the cost become prohibitive. I just cannot see how fees approaching £100 for a licence will KEEP drivers racing or indeed attract new ones. Maybe the £89 fee is to subsidise DRS drivers who I'm led to believe will get the licence free - what's that all about? A well run national series doesn't ensure an improvement at club level. Club level to me means entries to monthly club competitions up and down the country, at affordable prices. Fulbeck for example, charged a £10 registration fee and £55 for Saturday Practice AND Sunday racing last season. Proper scrutineering and marshalling. Now that is catering to grass roots karting!.
