You may find that a 3 litre is still too small as you have to take into account that the basket suspends the item above the modules attached to the bottom of the tank.

You need to cover the carb body completely as if any part is left above the fluid level, a black mark will form that is very difficult to remove.

Fluid choice is important as some fluids will stain alloys.

Do not leave items submerged in non active fluids and rinse as soon as you take them out, blow dry and give a light spray with a water repellent. (WD40).
