X30 kart hire?

I am looking at getting into karting at 35. I have competed in mortorsport for years but the cost and time required for cars is just too much now for me if i want to be at the front of a national championship. So i still have that competitive streak and need a that buzz so i feel karting could be a good option. I have looked at the usual X30/rotax and have been told that gearbox karts could be a good route due to being 6'3 and just under 100kg my size and weight would be less of a penalty.

But i quite fancy racing at the likes of PFI but i believe they don't run Gbox karts? So is there an option of hiring a kart for a club type of event before i splash out Ł5k or so to find out it's not giving me the fix i require? I'm based in the north east but regularly down on the wirral so hooton park etc would be an ideal venue.
