Two answers here. The only criteria with carbon is the same as for any other engine, and this is more critical on two-strokes than four, generally, and that is that the engine is measured as it finished the race. There is no allowance for carbon, or for the removal of it post-race. If you are building one of these engines you have to leave what you consider to be a tolerance for carbon build-up. If you strip your engine regularly you can probably go tight on the dimensioning, if you are the sort to leave the engine half a season then I would allow a little more tolerance. The gauges are available to anyone who wants a set, Give Dartford Karting if you want them!
