I spoke to someone I've known for years, at the weekend. I won't name him but he has good connections within cadet circles and gets to use the dyno of one of the "big" teams. I do trust what he told me.
On the Saturday I asked him how his day was going, he said "looking good, I've got the loan of a good engine" I asked him how good?
He said, his own engine was good but still improving and it was about 6.1hp on the dyno, the one he'd been loaned (which was a super 1 driver's 3rd or 4th best engine) was about 6.4hp. He reckoned, the absolute front running engines within that team were about 6.6 or more.
So that gives 6.1 for a sound club motor, 6.4 (5% more) for the better than average and 6.6+ (Nearly 10%) for the best of the best. This is iame cadet and the best of the best will include, absolutely best carbs and exhausts.
I must admit, I find the size of that spread a little disappointing but probably inevitable.
