Tired dad. My comments are not towards karting in general they are my conclusion after my son racing in cadets for the past 4 years starting at club level and now in Super 1 and LGM. I don;t discourage cadet karting but if you want to win at Super 1 or LGM you need a budget of at least £20k plus or you wont achieve the top 10 regardless of talent. Just look at this years top10 no one in there who isn;t spending that kind of money. My advice as earlier for a cadet karting is stay at club level accept that one kid is mega fast because his dad is cheating and enjoy the racing with the legal kids. Now and again you will win and you won;t have blown thousands of pounds chasing trophies all over the country that other dads with more money are in front of you because of money and not racing talent. Club level racing is still enjoyable because the big teams and wealthy dads tend not to be racing there and are attracted to the national championships espicially the big teams where it is a very profitable business for them. I am not bitter about our time in Super 1/LGM cadets but i hope by being honest from my experience it will help people make an informed choice. Also for the record this years british champion in both iame and honda is well deserved and a fantastic driver. It will be interesting to see if he drives proffessionally after winning both cadet classes and maybe the LGM, without the millions it takes to get there but without doubt an exceptionally talented and determined driver.
