There are a few Iame cadet engines that are head and shoulders better than the rest and command more than £5k. Whilst these engines are not going to turn your son into a winner it is certainly going to help if he has an extra tenth or two in the motor and develops as a driver as well. Being a winner at the front is about everything being the best driver kart setup motor etc etc. You also only need the extra tenth or two if you are racing super 1 and lgm, at club level a talented driver on average equipment can still be competitive and be at the front and win. My advice stay at club level and leave the national racing to the millionaire dads in the big teams, no point chasing the dream with them. X30 wise i think you will see towards the end of this year and most certainly next year that if you have the money to spend on the motors with a big team you will get a better motor, the x30's are proving to need more regular re-builds to keep them fresh and some parents are already just re-building and re-building until the engine comes good and spending massive amounts of money on the motor, exhaust bends etc. You could see at Larkhall last weekend that on the saturday talented drivers that were privateers and didn;t have a bottomless pit of money were off the pace by 2 or 3 tenths. Come sunday and race day the weather was wet and leveled the power playing field and the talent came to the front. Unfortunately x30 will be dominated by the big teams next year as have the cadets and rotax. To be at the front in any of the national classes you need to have talent and money and sometimes having more money than talent is the best way round.
