it builds up carbon in the head quicker.....to increase the compression ratio......totally illegal for MSA race-day hence people only do it on test days......to be honest I have only ever heard of people doing it in the past, not even my engine builder recommended it was done as it apparently builds up a blobby style of carbon.....also now the blocks can be skimmed this pretty much gets the compression as high as it will ever be.

I believe there is also another theory that it helps the engine spin-up quicker......but I honestly dont know how true that is.
