You raise a good point.....its been mentioned before that the MSA do appear to be fixated to whatever is going on in the Italian karting market, and we kind of follow their lead......perhaps brexit might force a change for the better

I am a chartered engineer and work in the automotive powertrain R&D industry for a French 20 billion euro tier-1 parts and technology supplier to the OEM's, I'm a design manager for powertrain hybrid technology for the low C02 and high performance sector and have been designing road and high performance engines for 20 years, I work with all OEM's, the slow, fast, big and small, my point being I'm quite well placed to make judgement regarding whats going on inside the automotive industry, and why its happening.

The overall problem with the UK auto-industry is the pound is far too strong, therefore the UK is considered by europe as a "high-cost" country, I have lost count of the amount of project committee's I have sat upon and the majority of finance is immediately directed to eastern-europe manufacture, forget France, and you can take a long walk of a short pier if you dare want to manufacture in the UK, its out of the question......hence investment in the UK from Europe is minimal, our french parent company has a group ban on manufacturing any new products in france, because the labour laws are too strong which forces up the cost of manufacture, so they are fixated with setting up production plants in eastern europe where labour rates are nice and cheap, so hungary, poland, romania, czech republic are all having a field day, this has been going on for the past 15+ years, for the past decade they have been ripping out production lines from france and re-locating to eastern-europe for low labour rates.......my point being, sourcing from the UK while the pound is so strong will not happen in significant volume.......this may sound like sacrilege, but the I can only see that if we do leave the EU, the pound will de-value significantly, the up-side is we will then be able to compete with the eastern-europeans in terms of manufacture costs, the UK will no longer be a high-cost country.....this does have many long term benefits

Considering the above, my thoughts on the karting landsacpe are if the above happens, and I honestly believe we are set to leave the EU, then all the Italian karting kit will become more expensive to import due to exchange rates and tariffs, so by default much more of the UK home grown kit will be come more attractive to buy, engine wise, yes it appears TKM is the only UK engine, perhaps it might take off......or people will just swallow the additional import cost and carry on regardless.......it will be interesting for sure, but I dont think it will kill off UK karting.
