A battery that has sulphated by being left uncharged will indicate a full charge but because of a high internal resistance, is unable to deliver any current and causes the voltage to collapse.

If you haven't got an intelligent charger, plug you normal one into a timer and set it to just switch on for perhaps 15-20 minutes a day and your battery should stay good.

Below a certain voltage, the electronics will not produce a spark.

On the subject of starters, keep away from the cheapo ones, the armatures are of poor quality and fail on the commutaor connections.

Get a brush kit and use the approved method of silicon on the positive braid.
