you will hear plenty of names like Project1, BRK, ZIP, Synergy personally I would avoid anything else as there is a lot of cheap junk out there and its nothing but aggro. A project One should do you just fine, you basically have 4 choices

1) £200 piece of junk
2) £400-600 semi piece of junk
3) £900-£1500 nice bit of modern MSA recently raced kit, 2-3 years old.
4) £5000 for all new

Honestly when I started karting with my son at 5 years old back in 2011, I went option 1) and just consumed a ton of money soon after.......then went option 2) again consumed a lot more dosh than I would have liked......then went option 3).......looking back on it I wish I had the money to go for option 3) straight away, but at the time I couldnt afford it, but in the long term it cost be a ton more........so best advice is scrape together all your pennies and go for option 3) straight away, it will benefit both you and your lad as you will be able to get set-up advice from others around that know what they are doing with a modern bit of kit.

if your starting out I would seriously advise you go honda-cadet and you want a T2 (not T1) motor that has a good service history and dyno ploy, then you can focus on your driver and not have any question-marks over your kit, as we did for the first 2 years!.....only when we got a 2012 Project 1 and a good T2 did we magically find another 3 seconds per lap, I will never forget that moment, just avoid junk karts that are cheap, its fools gold.
