Last Saturday the Clay Pigeon Raceway held a non-MSA sprint meeting in conjunction with Oliver Scullions F100 Series with 104 drivers competing.
We had 16 Senior Rotax racing on a controlled tyre (cost £100) which had to last all 5 of our Summer Series Rounds.
We had 15 Prokarts (including 1 Subaru)racing in a Sprint Series using the tyres used in endurance races.
We had 12 TKM (including 1 Easykart) using our controlled tyre and 6 Juniors also using the controlled tyre.
We had 9 Cadets using their class tyre.
Then we had the fabulous "sight and sound" of 46 Pre 95 and Pre 2000 F100 racing.
Why l ask the MSA to wake-up to the threat to MSA Racing is for them to look at the costs of organizing and running an MSA event. To ask them to investigate the damaging influence the kart trade has on the cost of racing with tyres at £150 a set lasting one meeting and the costly equipment updates every year.
We had 104 competitors who each had 2 x 8 minute Practice sessions, 3 heats of 8 minutes + 1 lap and a final of 10 minutes + 1 lap. All in one day and an entry fee of just £40.
To bring enjoyment back into our sport we must reduce costs, reduce the number of classes and reduce the trade control of the sport, simplify technical regulations and reduce the costs of organizing race meetings.
We at the Clay Pigeon Raceway are very aware of the history of MSA Racing at this circuit and we are very sad to see the demise of MSA Racing. The circuit has thousands of competitors racing and enjoying karting but reducing numbers participating in MSA race meetings.
Finally we need an Association that looks after the interests of ALL competitors and not the interests of the kart trade and the well healed competitors.
