I think there's a risk of 'kart before the horse' here.

I assume you haven't been karting long and/or haven't been to many races so far. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever, we all started that way!

However, the single best way of making a mistake in karting is to buy a kart before you have an understanding of the 'market' you want to enter. All karts go through phases. The S60 (forerunner to the W60) was THE cadet kart for years. WTP popped up but didn't quite make it, W60 was fabulous.... and then, along came the Honda which had many benefits. Now there's the IAME (excellent)..... but there WILL be something which supersedes that some day.

The only way you are going t6o know what is the 'right' kart for you is to go along to some races near you, preferably at more than one track, so you can see what is being used. After (let's guess) 4 meetings, you'll know what's being used and thus the best way to get yourself 'in'.

However, if you want your lad/lass just to have fun on the kart for a while or before they enter FULL racing, then the cheapest way is to buy something that WAS super popular but has now passed it's 'sell by date' for racing. They'll be cheap and excellent value. If and when your lad/lass is 'ready to race', you can then buy something that is 'current and popular locally so that you will have somewhere to race and sell the first kart with a minimum loss in money.

So, decide what type of karting you want to do (fun or DEFINITELY racing within months) To do that, go to some races.

However, the BIG one is..... keep your hands FIRMLY in your pocket away from the cash/card or cheque! DON'T BUY ANYTHING YET until you have seen a lot of karting!

So..... tell us where you are, we'll tell you the next local races, someone will agree to meet you there and you can spend a day helping (and buying teas and bacon sarnies). After a few meetings like that, you'll know what you want and you'll have met LOADS of new friends who will be willing to help you choose the right kit (and may even know one that's for sale) and help you start.

Karting is still VERY helpful..... at club level.... Use our knowledge!

Ian
