I'm pretty new to karting, having recently bought a used pro-kart, not interested in racing just happy to mess about at my local track and have something I can tinker with in the garage when I'm bored.

I've searched in vain to try and work out how Honda code their engines and contacting them hasn't been a great deal of help either. So if anyone is able to shed some light on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.

I understand the 'proper' GX160 engines for karting are either the QHQ4 or QHG4. The kart also came with two unused engines which are QMP1. I've also got the option of buying a couple of QMSB engines cheap. Can anyone offer any advice to what these different codes mean? Or advice as to the suitability of these engines types.

'Q' is a straight 3/4 output shaft with 5/16 bolt hole.
'X' I think is oil alert.
'E' I think is electric start.

Many thanks.
