No. A plastic floor will have no detectable effect.

How are you testing the sensor? The standard trick is to place the kart on a stand, switch everything on, and wipe (swipe) a decent sized fridge magnet along the floor directly under the sensor. That should trigger it.

The next best option would be to ask someone who has the same Alphano as you if you can plug your 'screen' onto their sensor and do the same 'swipe' trick. If it works with their sensor but doesn't work with yours, it's your sensor.
