Gaz. First, I assume you are talking about organised owner driver racing msa or ikr, not a&d or 'X box' racing. Second , I haven't been to a 'real' kart meeting in years so this is based on my impressions from on here and elsewhere. To your list of possible 'culprits' I would add , competitors , competitors parents, Lewis Hamilton, the education system ,etc.
But I am pretty sure you do your karting in the NE so let's start with Warden Law. Built I think with public funds. WL used to have an msa kart club which folded. It was taken over by a guy who wanted to run o/d racing and immediately there was a prospering (from the competitors point of view) racing setup. The present proprietor has no doubt looked at the figures and other things ( noise competitors attitudes, staffing,.etc ) and decided that o/d kart racing is far more trouble than it is worth, and he would not be alone in this view.
So you people troop off to Teesside run by another enthusiast,? and do your racing there probably at a loss to the proprietor rel . a&d. You race a Prokart? The coming of the Prokart in the early 90s brought about the biggest explosion in karting and kart racing numbrs seen in recent times. A cheap (relatively) and fast (enough) class, but what happened , soon the class had the most expensive chassis, oil,and until recently, engines , in karting, competitor/ trade led. Class destroyed by its own participants.
My 'illustrious ' karting career started at Wombwell , no a&d 2 days a month availability. In those days we had one race meeting and one open practice day per month. The' clientele ' were completely different for each. Owner drivers by the score ,who were not ready to race or didn't want to race blathered round all day ,1or 2 people ran the whole thing. Now they have a 2 day race meeting practice in sessions to protect the kiddies and completely raceday orientated, so depriving the beginner o/d of any facility at all and cutting off the future racer supply at source.... may be continued, or ...
