Lasers look fantastic in your tool box if you want to impress people...

Think this through and see if you can see my point:-

Yes, your laser could help you set your toe-in to (let's guess) an accuracy of 0.1mm. That MUST be good, yes?

Well...... it might be fantastic IF you knew which of the following worked best for your kart:-

mms Toe-In
2.0
2.1
2.2
2.3
2.4
2.5
2.6
2.7
2.8
2.9
3.0

If you could set the toe-in that accurately, you'd still need to TEST all of those potential settings to see which worked the best. If not, how are you going to know if 2.4 or 2.6 was best? If you only know that 2mm is better than 3mm... then that's the degree of accuracy that you need. If you think I am wrong..... why not measure the Toe-In to two places of decimals (2.52mm) or even more e.g. 2.52196375mm. You can see that super accuracy is not always an advantage! I'd argue, being accurate to 1 mm is close enough for all practical purposes!

What I am trying to point out here is that you (normally) use a measurement that as practically accurate for your purpose. It's the reason we measure (for example) the distance to London in Miles.... not Millimetres. Yes.... you could use Millimetres..... but who the hell needs to know the distance THAT accurately.... and what are they going to do with that accurate a measurement if they DO get it?

For me, for the price, a Tape Measure is a vastly more reasonable tool for the job..... unless there's nothing else that you could have used the money on that will make you faster.
