Personally, I would suggest that the Saturday of the Race-Sunday would be a BAD day for your child's first drive. Why? Because that's when the really QUICK boys are out there and they are in a hurry to get their race-kit setup for the Sunday.
Find one of the tracks that is open midweek and check the availability of the track. For example, Rye House is regularly open mid-week. The last time I took 'kids' for their first drive, it was cold but quiet on a Wednesday with about 5 other karts. That gave them time to learn how the kart felt before having to 'mix-it' with those who are already quick. I'd also advise trying to avoid the mid-week immediately before a race Sunday as there will be less people getting ready on such days for the forthcoming race.
