We clean our rotax engines by washing them down using petrol and a long haired soft paint/paste brush to remove most if not all oils/residues etc. Alternatively, seal off the engine inlet/exhaust ports with tightly fitting plastic caps, then spray over the engine with 'Elbow Grease' which is a general purpose degreasing chemical to breakdown and remove all oils/residues using a long haired soft paint brush then wash down with clean water.
