Most OTK chassis have 3 bearing carriers as well. In fact most CIK karts have 3 to my knowledge. 2 bearing carriers is kind of peculiar to TKM, because you are only allowed 2 bearings in Formula TKM.

Not sure how many people use tie wraps in place of bolts to let the axle flex a bit more in Rotax, and how many use bolts - most seem to leave it to float in tie-wraps that I have seen. I assume it's OK to remove the 3rd carrier entirely, but I've never checked the rules on that. But yes, unless you bolt it up, it won't be doing much.
