Interesting tactic

Watched an interesting and thought provoking display of karting today...
Your in the final and starting very near the front, but not pole. When on the rolling up lap, you 'appear' to have a fault with your kart and stop on the start finish line.
The rest of the pack are sent round again slowly and when they are nearing the start line again, you start the kart, race round for a lap getting heat in your tyres drive through the pack to arrive on the start line with nicely warmed tyres ready to go.....
Wondered if anyone else had seen this sort of practise as it seemed ingenious to watch...
