We oiled up twice at Buckmore LGM so didn't get to start our last heat and then the A final. In the heat we were led off the grid after an attempted restart by the marshal - it started first time when I got there, but I don't blame the officials as their priority is not my son - and in the final my son was left trying to restart it himself as it conked out at the bottom of the hill. Again we got it going, but were not allowed to race as it had already started.

On both cases they could have sent the grid around (and prob would have in normal rolling starts) but chose not to as they were worried others would oil up. I think the organisers need to publish exactly what the rules are to the standing starts and procedures and just keep to them. ie if the marshal tries to start you once and it doesn't fire, then you are out.

The IAMEs don't like to idle (hence why most dad's start the motors at the last possible minute on the dummy grid). Do we now warm the engines for a few mins on the stand (and get the noise police jumping up and down) or teach the kids to pinch the fuel pipe like KGP etc etc. The carbs are not adjustable and very sensitive whilst the engines have no electric start - all the other standing start classes have either or both. I would like to see some statistics that it has helped in terms of first lap incidents and not just change the scene of the accident from corner one to two.

It was a lot of money wasted to have a very disappointed son who did very little racing.
