"Finally, I feel that visiting drivers should be exempt from club championship points as this is not fair on the young lads who are robbed off the wider margin of points awarded at the top. I did mention this to the Rissy Comp Sec."

There is a potential problem with visiting drivers. One wonders what the SRs or ASRs said about the scope of the meeting. Was it a "National B" licence? In which case, the club should name the clubs invited to the meeting and refuse entries from people who aren't members of those clubs (or demand that they get membership as I believe that PFI does, possibly to get round this very problem).

However common sense says that no club is going to turn down drivers, especially if they can hold on to the natural 'clubbie' who doesn't want to have the extra hassle of visiting drivers and the resultant possible damage by offering IKR.

Of course, the other trick is to operate a 'clubbie' system for the club championship, one gets the points for the championship by the order of club drivers over the line. It doesn't affect the event positions (ie, the first driver, visitor or otherwise, over the line wins the day's trophy) but does affect the championship positions where the first club driver over the line gets the points of the race winner, the second gets the points of a 2 etc.)

I have a theory that much of the extra damage caused when there are visiting drivers is simply one of unknown values. As various people have pointed out over several threads, most drivers know and respect their fellow drivers, one knows those who will pass without effort and there is little point in obstructing them and one knows the foibles of those you compete regularly and rely on a consistent performance. But when visitors arrive they are unknowns, as are the club drivers to them.

So mistakes are made because the reactions on the track are not what one expects, and this often looks very deliberate. Probably only 5% of all incidents are the result of deliberate abuse of the rules, though this can lead to copying. One can see the same thing on a motorway, the general speed can be about 70, but if a car goes by at 80, then others will follow suit, presumably on the grounds that 'if he can get away with it, I can".
