there is a similar theory doing the rounds in honda cadet at the moment whereby the paddock gossip is that if you use a 19:74 (0.257 ratio) instead of a 20:78 (0.256 ratio)this will "release you better out of the corners.

for me there are 2 reasons I question this logic.......1) less teeth does not necessarily mean less friction, if you have less teeth for a given chain loading the friction will increase........secondly, the more you bend the chain around a smaller sprocket the more energy the chain will consume bending and straightening itself with every pass.

but on the plus side...... a smaller drive sprocket helps you in the wet as you then dont need such a huge rear sprocket, that is a pain to fit inside the chain guard, of you need to fit a bigger chain......also I think running a smaller rear sprocket will marginally (not much) create a smaller misalignment angle when the chassis is twisting, but honestly I think we are talking a gnats-todger small angle difference.

Perhaps people have tested it on the dyno and it does make a big difference!.....as 19Tooth clutches are now very common in Honda Cadet
