You are lucky that the old man Harrison does not read these posts Mr Fallon or you will have probably just volunteered to be buying the beer for the rest of the year!!

There is definitely an opportunity to do something on entry fees and I have given some thought to this and will get back to you when these are properly formulated.

Fees are, however, only one part of the problem. The karts are definitely out there but the reason for not racing (or choosing to go elsewhere) is not quite so black and white. I have said before on here that we need to make racing as accessible as possible. It is what makes Teesside and others so attractive in that you can turn up on the day, pay your entry fee and go racing. Having to book-in in advance and penalising those that don't is just a step too far for a club that quite clearly states on the web site that it provides low cost, entry level karting. If the grids were full I could understand it but we are a million miles away from that at the moment and non-MSA club karting is the lowest rung on the motorsport ladder and pretending to be anything different is simply a step too far.

The biggest issue is culture. Last weekend ran extremely smoothly and the atmosphere in the paddock (well certainly amongst the prokart lads) was as good as it has ever been - even with the occasional incident. Contrast that with other months when there was still excellent racing. great banter but people were talking afterwards of their negative, off track experiences. If it was just one or two it would be easy to brush off but when it comes from drivers (ie the customer), staff and officials it must be something way deeper.

Perhaps we were spoilt in previous years. there was no denying that Ian was one of the good guys, kept it simple and knew how to give his customers what they wanted (and he was a karter at heart which helps significantly - and his recent photos on Facebook show he is still at it, albeit a whole load slower!). I doubt we will ever get back to this, however, it is our championship, our club and we can create the atmosphere that we want despite the uncontrollables. Would I pay a premium over Teesside of Tockwith to race at Warden Law? You are damm right I would given the facilities, officials, on-site medic (although discount for having to endure the mud over the past 3 months wouldn't have gone a miss!). Is Warden Law comparable to PF? Far from it but it has to be the North East's premier facility and deserves to be supported but has to accept that it simply does not have the catchment nor the enticement to get the numbers that PF commands. When was the last time anyone tested on the Saturday, stayed at the track and raced Sunday?

Keep it simple, remove the barriers, engage customer service and price becomes less of an issue.

Graeme
