We have been racing at Three sisters for about 12 months now on the Prokart 2hr endurance. When we first started we had terrible engines, a not so clever Wright chassis and all kinds of problems getting the correct sprocket set up.

Most karts at 3s run on a 22/66 set up however we have 20 tooth clutches so were told to run 20/63. At the time this didn't seem to get us out of the corners quick enough nor build us enough speed on the long straight. We played around with 20/63..20/66 and ended up at 20/68.

We now have much stronger engines along with a newer MS chassis and are still running on 20/68. We are out of the corners quicker than ever and not too bad on the long straight however we do have quite a few karts which are still over taking us once on the straight.

At the end of the straight our revs are hitting 5950rpm. Bearing in mind our two drivers weigh in at 195kg sat in the kart (minimum race weight is only 180kg) would it be of any benefit to now try dropping back down to 66 on the rear sprocket to see if it will give us the extra punch on the long straight or with our revs at 5950 are we about right and just going to have to accept that our bigger guts are gonna hold us back????

Our lap times are approx. 1.5 secs down on the race leaders and 2.5km/hr on the max speed.

Any advise appreciated.

Thanks

Paul
