Fuel leak - just a pipe?

At Rowrah, our only T2 suffered fuel starvation in the first heat and more or less spluttered to a halt by the end of the heat, going about 8 seconds a lap slower than the middle of the race.
Got the engine over to the engine running area, wondered about whether or not the pulse-pump was working, but noticed that when I pull the starter, fuel leaks out between the carb and the inlet manifold or cylinder head. Is that likely just to be a split pipe, or is there anything else that could cause a noticeable trickle of fuel in that area every time I try to start it?
