"Reducing good drivers to being exposed to the embarrassment of simulating a day out on the Legoland electric karts by doing standing starts is a sure way of losing top drivers and karting will still be left with the handful of unpunished bad drivers."

Spoken like someone who wasn't there....... Because actually.... by the end of Sunday the general consensus from both drivers and people who have been around the sport in some cases since the 1960's.... was that it had been a success.

"Much easier to just punish the bad drivers who are a small problem, rather than turn it into the present farce and an even bigger problem."

Is it easier.....Really? I could set up ten cameras at a start and invite you to come along and DEFINITIVELY say who did the loading in real time without reference to the camera footage in slow motion.... and I am pretty certain you would not get it right 80%-90% of the time....... EASY IT IS NOT.....EVEN WITH SLOW MOTION AVAILABLE.

"Ok, some innocent drivers may be punished......."

And when that happens to your son three times in a row when it wasn't him how happy will you be......? Not very. That part of your comment says everything about why your argument is flawed.

"The bad drivers are known to the good drivers and the officials, but they seem reluctant to name and shame and act on them because some are attached to big teams or wallets....."

Utter Tosh..... Cannot think of any Super 1 clerk who would not act on what they see, or on what is reported to them. The fact is they penalised Mark Litchfield twice last season for what they considered was contact resulting in gaining an advantage, and you could argue he is possibly the ONLY paid works driver in the sport.....and as such is associated with a team whose owner has a bigger wallet than most people in the sport.....

When they did make a decision to issue an instant black flag for loading we showed helicam footage to suggest that decision was harsh, showing just how difficult their job is.

The fact is contact driving, loading particularly has been an ongoing issue at the start of races and one of the main gripes from many within the sport. John Hoyle made an executive decision to try something new in an attempt to make a difference. Initially there were other issues concerning the revving of engines and burning out of clutches slipping at 10,000 revs whilst held on the brake on the red light for 4-5 seconds. A further decision was then made to turn the engines off on the grid before the starter held up a start engines sign followed by a near instant light sequence from red to green signalling the start. This appeared to solve the issue of the clutches being subjected to severe over-revving and by the end of Saturday it was clear the decision to try standing starts had been vindicated.... So much so in fact that the Seniors, who initially voted to continue with rolling starts.... changed their minds on Sunday morning and voted to reverse their original decision..... and that included several drivers who were more than vociferous (bordering on anger) in their opposition to standing starts on Saturday.

As for drivers not being able to make up places because they are too far down the grid..... John Stewart made 17 places, Shane Daly 15 places, Luke Wooder 18 places. Would they have made up more places in a rolling start from the back of the grid? Probably..... because in all likelihood they would have made up 5-6, maybe more cheap places at the start overtaking those in the top ten who had been loaded up and punted off in the chicane....Just like John Stewart had been in Heat 1 from P2.

The decision was made as a genuine attempt to do something about loading at the starts. The alternative was to do nothing. After listening to concerns about loading John made a decision designed to address concerns raised to him about certain tracks in particular, and starts generally. And when the initial method of going from red lights to green turned up a new problem of clutches being destroyed, he listened to those who made suggestions as to an alternative way of doing it and changed the procedure.

Personally, I think it not only changed the racing dynamic, it added to the spectacle and was a positive move to address one of the biggest gripes in the sport.....loading up at the start, and through the first few turns.
