Just had a phenomenally frustrating weekend's racing. Managed to get the engine set up well on the Saturday. On Sunday, same weather / similar track conditions etc - no power. Changed carb / plug / fuel. Checked top end / piston / barrel / ring - no obvious problems. Good spark from ignition etc. Still no power - to the extent that the driver could just drive around the whole track with his foot right down the whole way. Managed to go from 5th to plumb last within 1/2 lap.... One unhappy chap.
The engine was not getting to top revs, even on a larger rear sprocket. Temperature was about 105. Rev curve on 'Race Studio' looks very flat.
Borrowed 'out of the box / standard' engine for last heat/final, same setup on kart and same conditions - made up 5 places in the final and not miles off the general pace, so problems not down to the driver / chassis setup.
Our engine has gone off to the engine builder to be sorted, hopefully.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what might have happened ? It has been suggested that the crank might be beginning to 'separate' (although there seems to be a reasonable degree of end float on rough examination) or one of the main bearings is shot.
Just looking for some suggestions so that I can have a more informed discussion with the engine builder later this week. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!
