IF the MSA don't listen to the average level market - NOT S1 competitors spending huge sums on Rotax and Mojos and teams, then the normal 'masses' grass root motorsport will move away. I see no real effort from the MSA to promote grass roots karting. Take a current true case in point. A local MSA club (not fair to name as they are a great historic club with no noticeable support to keep going from the industry or MSA and a great track to race at) attracted a total of 32 Club entries across all classes for their first round of their summer series, which is an indicator of the commitment from the market for their championship. A Non MSA club not privately owned - run by a not for profit club, attracted an entry of 70 plus for a normal round. The MSA and / or their supporting body have got to look at why this happens; entry costs, licence Inc. PPG costs, medical costs, race wear costs, tyre costs - this is a big one - run open tyres and you can compete on second hand sticky tyres at a fraction of the cost of Mojos - the MSA could force the reuse of Mojo slicks through a national database linked to race entries and tyre barcodes, excluding old rotax equipment - why are you not allowed to the old black radiator in MSA Rotax racing - what possible performance advantage could it have. Basically you can race and compete at non MSA for less than half the cost of MSA. For those that can afford MSA racing that's where they go - but it doesn't appear to be the grass root masses does it. On the MAX series why not let it run as the NKF does - as part on normal club meetings - the club entries are boosted when the series visits and the local clubbies get to race against national guys - perhaps between S1 and club level. Can't see how S1 racers would go to MAx series and dilute the S1?? If they did, so be it the karting would be going where the economy dictates and the numbers competing are maintained - market forces!
I need to be careful getting off of my very tall soapbox - too old for this sort of thing.
