My son and I as a lad and dad team on a low budget managed to win our club Minimax championship in 2012 and broke the lap record in the process. That was our second year in mini, the first year was the last year before the restrictor came in and it took my boy the whole of 2011 to get used to the lift off without the restrictor. I set up a throttle position indicator light on the top of the steering wheel and when the myhcron flashed at 9000 he lifted off until the throttle light came on and that was the right lift off position then as the airspeed through the carb picked up he went to full throttle! Hard work for a youngster, also he got the hang of it and then the restrictor came it. But you still need to be gentle on the throttle in mini especially; the carb venturi is too big, so when the throttle is fully open the airspeed through the carb drops causing the bog down, until the throttle is closed to somewhere near the correct venturi size to allow it to act as a venturi and the air speeds up again, until you get to a point in the rev range where the throttle / venturi needs to be bigger to allow the top end revs. As BD quotes crap driving experience, why can't they just use the right size carb in the first place. We found such variance in carbs, air boxes, coils, exhaust, and finally engines it is part of the reason we gave up on rotax and karting - can't kept up in the end with the money men testing 50 of each items to find the best! Was good when we did win against big teams with our one old chassis, one engine, one carb, one airbox etc. my advice go TKM or maybe X30.
