some good points made camber leigh. there are a lot of people out there in 160 land that are just sat waiting to see whats going to happen to the class. theres a lot of talk of how this is going to be the saviour of prokarting and how suddenly were all going to be able to race on a level playing field in massive grids for very little money.... but were not. as far as i can see there will always be people with big pockets in motorsport. with the money which would have been spent on engines out of the equation for a minute do we honestly believe that the moneybags at the front of the grid will save there pennies for a slap up meal....no.... they will be looking for other ways to get the advantage. new tyres every meeting, frame adjustment etc. as discussed because of engine seals the top teams or drivers will be returning there engines to the one tuner who will be making a killing stripping and resealing the motors to keep them at the top of there game.... and to what cost. so people say.... well the engines are miles cheaper we are told and we no longer need to be spending £2500 on engines to be competitive....newsflash... we dont anyway. i know of someone who has just spent £1000 on brand new t2 160's and have already had a win and some good results in a competitive race series. we are also told that because the engines are dyno'd the same max hp that they will be the same. this may be the case but i doubt it. they may be closer but with the vast difference in torque curves there will be differences. at the moment there is a mobile dyno going around on circuit to be able to check if the engines are as equal as planned. what happens when various race weekends take place where rpm are unable to be in attendance.....what happens if we have an engine problem with no one on track to repair and reseal the engine. so thus requiring a spare. the fact that there has been a dwindling grid around the country has been put down by a few people solely to the cost of sp motors and yes they havnt helped. but its the current financial climate that we live in which has seen a decline in prokart grids. the grids wont come back till that changes but when they do its important that we have a stable well organised race format for people to return to and not the fragmented chaos were seeing at the moment..... sorry for being a party pooper or being all doom and gloom but theres a lot of peole out there who are sat worried that there 160 class is going to dissapear overnight and theyll be forced into spending more money on 200 extremes i think its important everyone chooses which way they want to go with this but also arnt led blindly by people with a vested interest....
