If Atol's the solution... what was the problem ?

For the impartial among us who've done comparative testing, it seems that the Atol fuel is inferior to pump fuel when it comes to engine power. However the reason it was introduced was to stop fuel cheating. So the question really is, how consistent is it ? After all, that's the purpose of a control fuel ? Are there independent assessments to confirm that ?

Of course it leads us back to the 'sledgehammer to crack a nut' approach to this issue. I still don't know why its not possible to prescribe pump fuel within a certain tolerance band and then test samples of drivers' fuel after an event to determine whether its compliant or not.

That would mean that all that was required was the test apparatus and somebody competent to be able to test it. In the event of a protest over a failed test, it could be later sent for forensic chemical analysis at a lab.
