My son's helmet was bought new 3 years ago, it is marked by MSA blue badge 2005 when first used,inside on the stitched in label it refers to Snell 2000 and then has a date "Date 02/02"<manufacturing date I guess, is this the Snell date for which it runs out,so effectively even tho in a box,kept in dry conditons and with no exposure to atmospheric elements which may or may not deteriorate the outer shell and not in use ,so hair oil ,cosmetics Etc don't enter the equation,it's at nearly 30% of its life before it is even sold. Wondered why it was discounted,people in the know would have probably said NO Thank you I will get a new new one.

It won't have the chin strap cut at 2012 but it will be seen on the top of his or his sisters head as pillion on my bike.

Been involved with motorcycling for years and to the best of my knowledge none of the major manufacturers recommend a replacement after 5 or 10 years and the helmets I have used are nowhere near as good as this one. In fact last year I saw a guy on the road on a 1970s GT750 Kettle and complimented it with 70s Lewis leathers AND a Phil Read replica helmet also late 70's. Surely if it wasn't up to it some wised up Motorcycle trained Plod would have warned him off for an inappropriate Crash Helmet,not to required standards.
