At a meeting last month with only 4 drivers in our class my boy was attracting unwanted attention from 2 drivers who felt an "outsider" to "their" local track had no right to be quicker than they !
All sorts of sillyness resulted in my approaching the COC (Mr Brian Lord) to avail him of the potential situation for the final race of the day....I asked, pleaded, if he would speak with the FOUR drivers and basically mark ALL of their cards so as to make sure the final race was safe and sound....
He promised he would do this as he had noticed several unwanted incidents both on and off the track and thanked me accordingly.
He DID NOT speak with the drivers and the final was a complete joke !
2 drivers worked together with the slower one blocking, weaving for ALL to see to the point of holding his brake on up the straight directly in front of my boy and the 4th driver....this continued for 2 more laps until my son through frustration went for a manouvre that didnt work out putting himself and the "rouge" driver off circuit....my boy was black flagged !
On sitting down with the COC it was proven that the "rouge" driver was over a second slower than his " friend " and had indeed been holding up the 2 remaining drivers BUT it was MY boys actions of trying to get past which resulted in the black flag incident.
No answer was given as to why my request to sit down and talk with the drivers was given....
No apology...
No reasoning...
Just punishment.
I appealed and put my money down.
I lost the appeal and my money.
By now I had stayed 3hrs longer than expected.
We could of course have appealed even further....we didn't.
We WONT go back to that track again and my respect AND confidence in THAT particular COC isnt very high.
I don't know what the answer is or how better we could've managed the situation APART from asking my boy NOT to race in the final so as to avoid a "situation".
As Ian mentions, punishing a British Champion or a "name" spreads the word....anyone else seems not to have the desired effect.
