Yes it would be great if anyone who wanted to do the championships could do so whatever their budget but there are costs involved and someone has to pick up the tab.
I am sure that if karting could be made free then we get lots more kids and adults doing it. Maybe even ones with far more talent than anyone currently involved.
Karting may be the cheaper end of motorsport but it is not cheap. every year you will find good drivers dropping out because the parents can not afford to compete at that level again.
One of my adult sons has expressed an interest in taking up karting and we were discussing costs. As a hobby just doing one club meeting a month it looked reasonable but if you get the bug and start racing every week or travelling long distances to championship rounds then the costs start to rise.
