Ian, you Have a valid point about costs. That is why it took us so long to make the move. I started this thread as someone in another thread on cheating in TKM mentioned we had made the move and someone else asked that we let them know how it was going.
I am not suggesting that car racing is better value than racing TKM at club level; it isn't. But it is not horrendously expensive either.
A typical weekend gives you 80 minutes of track time although at Croft we got 140 minutes for our £395. A typical weekend karting at Kimbolton would probably give you 40 minutes (5 eight minute sessions) on Saturday and about 35 minutes on Sunday. So track time is about the same for a quarter of the cost.
If you do an open pitlane track day or test day the car is probably better value for money. We have done 200 miles for a £99 signing on fee plus £20 for a second driver. You would be lucky to get 40 miles in a kart at a Kimblton test day.
Once you have bought your Mx5 then it will probably cost less to run per mile than a kart.
And you get the chance to drive all the great motor racing circuits.
