Use the practise day to try out different viewing locations and stands around the track. Last event I went to was WSB and the only large screen and timing tower was opposite Luffield 1 so that is where I watch the main races from. You can also get the live timing on your smartphone I(at least I could for WSB) but there was quite a lag so best used to keep track of the running and which team-mate is ahead of the other etc. Finally, take your bicycle into the track, makes it a whole lot easier and quicker to get round the different part of the circuit.
