Was it a serious error of judgement? More serious than any of the other touches that have been made by various drivers for which no penalty has been made in the past.

Is it more significant that these two have past history, or are past world champions?

Does anyone think that Alonso was playing some game in scaring Lewis or was it simply an error of judgement and he just didn't realise just how much understeer he was going to get that close?

If you think he was dicing with Lewis, then you would also have to consider whether the problem was that Lewis slowed down a bit for some reason (tyres perhaps?).

I think it was simply that Alonso got better drive out of the corner than he expected and closed the gap faster than he expected and the car didn't respond quite as much as he expected.

It looks a bit like tit-for-tat. Alonso complained that Lewis was blocking him, so Lewis complained he got hit and the stewards have to be seen to consider and take action, particularly if a bit of needle or dangerous driving was concerned.

I must say that there does appear to be a lot more moving around to block the lines now, possibly because the DRS means that an overtake can be completed so much more easily that a bit of movement is acceptable.
