Untrue. I have been party to a meeting with some Vice Chancellors, obviously the final decision hasn't been made but if the Browne review reccommendations were put in place (which barring any protest pressure they probably will) the universities would have charge Ł8000 per head per year to remain at the same level of funding. Further to this, there is the real danger (for universities charging less than other universities) to be seen as 'lesser universities' thus they are all likely to charge the same as Oxford and Cambridge - likely to be Ł9000 a year.

To balance out the extra Ł1000, they would offer discounts (for example on halls of residence accomadation.)

Certainly in my experiance there is the wrong impression of students. Instead of doing nothing it seems to be work hard play hard atm, sure we go out a lot but I'm also currently in the middle of a report, after which I have to research for another 4000 word report (due in 1.5 weeks), after which I have to model a 3d model of an ejector seat on Cad, then analyse it then write a report on that, after which I have to start revision for the end of semester exams. All whilst being on the board of trustees of the union and having all these various meetings.

Whenever anyone mentions that students just 'do nothing' I get quite offended.

n.b. Scottish students get tuition fees for free. I don't see anyone having a go at them?
