When I started driving (18 year old), on a 1.4 Renault Clio L reg, on my dads policy was 550 Fully Comp. With three points, I swapped to a Rover 1.1 litre 2 series, S reg, on dads policy, 700! On a smaller car?!

Now with 7 points, same 1.1l Rover, on my own Fully Comp, Ł1200, up to Ł1800 as I have to pay monthly.

Don't let him mod the car, the police will hound him!! In my old Clio (Stainless Steel exhaust and CD Player, that's it!) I was pulled over 7 times in two weeks. Not driving recklessly, not speeding (at the time), just because I was a young lad in a modded car.

Hunt around you will find something cheaper, but he'll just have to ride it out I'm afraid. And for god sake don't screw up like I did!!!
