Part of the problem is the inline styles being applied, its making the code absolutely huge, no need for inline styles these days, its just down to it being built in old code unfortunately, as an example, another kart forum out there (I wont mention which) on a category page, is 67kb of html data, whereas this one is 176kb. I've also just pinged the url and the IP, both timed out so the main problem seems to be the server. A site of this size could really do with being on a private server but www.karting.co.uk is sharing with 49 other domains (saying that though the ones I have looked at do not have websites beind them, just holding pages for Esentra Internet Solutions). The site shouldnt be slow due to lots of old posts as they are not all being called up when you load the page, just what you see and thats nothing compared to the complexity of some of the sites out there.
