The dangers that these guys face is what makes the event and is what enables them to command so much respect amongst bike racers. Just as in any Motorsport, if danger was totally removed then it would lose some of it's edge.. after all its the possibility that something might happen that gives us our rush when travelling at high speeds.
Just because he knew the dangers and just because the event was dangerous does not mean that people don't care about the riders. Afterall it's usually the participants that join together to try and improve safety (GPDA). Perhaps the riders are happy with the risks that they take. Just because it's not surprising that someone is killed does not mean that you cannot leave a respectful comment.
