Andrew, I'm not sure that's where it will squeeze in. As I mentioned, so many outfits have tried this already, going back almost 20 years, and they've all failed spectacularly. The concept's not new at all and people seem to want keyboards to do that kind of thing. The iPhone was a completely different proposition and unified several different GADGETS in one sexy GADGET. The iPhone sat completely away from the Mac/PC stuff.
Where I see the iPad working [if at all] is in the consumption of 'new media'. What I mean here is the embryonic transition of broadcast TV from scrolling programming to on-demand clips. It may have been a tad too early for that, but who knows. Oh, it also doubles up as a kindle... bit of a pricey alternative if that's all its used for though.
Wait and see would be well heeded advice on the iPad.
