You say the solution(s) to the problem would never get voted in. How very true. It is worse than that, though. The ONLY real solution is to reduce the human population. Nothing else will do. Even IF ACC is not 'real' (as in a 'significant effect'), our use of fossil fuels, aquisition of land (and sea) destroying its 'natural' resources, pollution of land (and sea...again!), with everything from polythene bags to nuclear waste....all these are enough in themselves to bring about major, and irreversable damage to the environment. We are constantly INCREASING our energy demands, despite calls for the opposite. Couple this with increasing population, and there isn't a hope in hell! Unless, and until we can accept that there are too many people, and swallow the need to have less kids (speaking as someone with 3!), the problems will not go away...they may just change a little.

This is a GLOBAL problem, that requires a global solution...but even locally....can anyone seriously imagine ANY political party being elected on a 'compulsory sterilisation' ticket?

All that being said....it is no reason not to make an attempt. Accepting that there IS a problem is the first step to solving it.
